Bob Sherrill, DLA Pacific Alaska's Warfighter Support Representative recently received the National Defense Transportation Association Distinguished Service Award during their convention Sep 20-23, 2009 in Nashville, TN. Bob just recently relocated from the Tampa Bay area where he was the local chapter President. His support to the NDTA SE District and the local chapter, enabled them to have world class speakers at their luncheons, direct involvement in the community transportation infrastructure, and key supporter in the annual scholarship golf tournament raising more than $3,000 which was distributed to local college and college bound area family members as scholarships. The Tampa Bay chapter of the National Defense Transportation Association was the SE chapter of the year for the past 2 years under Bob's direct influence. He now has taken his time and talents and is applying it to supporting the warfighter in Alaska and the Pacific as DLA's lead in Alaska.
Tampa Bay Chapter Wins Another Award (May 2009)
The Tampa Bay Chapter has been selected as the Southeastern Region International Chapter of the Year (Category II)! They are now eligible for the national award.
The Tampa Bay Chapter distinguished itself throughout 2008/2009 with impressive membership growth in the first year of status II. Congratulations once again to Team Tampa Bay!
Tampa Bay Chapter Wins Award (May 22, 2008)
The Tampa Bay Chapter has been selected as the Southeastern Region International Chapter of the Year (Category I)! They are now eligible for the national award.
The Tampa Bay Chapter distinguished itself throughout 2007/2008 with impressive membership growth leading to a move up Chapter status from I to II. From a start of 60 members after a few short months to a total of 120 in our first full year, has been impressive. It was a total team effort, and the momentum continues. The meetings with some of the most influential Industry and Department of Defense experts have been phenomenal. From DLA, CENTCOM, SOCOM and TRANSCOM to the Under Secretary of Defense for Transportation Policy, our programs have been second to none. We continue to strive to improve upon or goals and keep the valuable programs moving forward. The distinctive accomplishments of the Tampa Bay Chapter of the National Defense Transportation Association is recognized a charter program to emulate. Congratulations to team Tampa Bay!
Scholarship Applications Available (May 12, 2008)
Scholarship applications are now available. They are to be filled out and returned by July 31, 2008 to a chapter board member or officer. Please see the scholarships section to download your copy.
2nd Annual Golf Tournament (March 1, 2008)
Our 2nd Annual Golf Tournament was held on Friday, February 29th and was another resounding success, raising over $3,300 for our scholarship fund.
We had approximately 50 players attend the tournament at MacDill Air Force Base with morning beverages provided by Starbucks.� The formidable team of Hardy Pearson, JP LaCasse with Vince and Andy Laverghetta put their 2007 standing of 2nd Place behind them by finishing first this year.�
Upon completion of the 18 holes of golf, all players met back at the clubhouse to claim their raffle prizes and to enjoy a delicious meal courtesy of Carrabbas Italian Grill.� We would like to thank those companies that donated items that were used in our raffle:� National Air Cargo, United Airlines, T-Mobile, Outback, Tampa Bay Lightning, and Big Cat Rescue.� And we would like to recognize those companies who sponsored a hole during the tournament:� National Air Cargo, United Airlines, T-Mobile, Publix, IBM, DHL, and AAA Forwarding.
In all, everyone had a wonderful time playing on a beautiful course and the weather couldn't have been more perfect.�
Our next tournament will be held Friday, February 6, 2009 so put that date down in your planner so you don't miss out!
